Sr. Electro-Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for a hands-on candidate with a combination of strong practical skills and experience in employing a wide variety of analytical engineering techniques.  This individual will be an integral contributor to multiple parallel design and execution tasks, supporting hardware development relating to power electronic systems.   The individual will be expected to adapt quickly and work closely with the entire technical organization in a collaborative manner on cross-functional tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Support electro-mechanical design and analysis activities from conceptual design, to validation prototypes, to pilot and production release
  • Liaise with suppliers and optimize products for low cost and high reliability
  • Support validation efforts with hands-on participation in testing
  • Design of packaging, thermal management and manufacturing technology for power converters and related products
  • Work collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines; including electromagnetic, electrical and thermal
  • Participate in design process including:
    meeting new product development milestones, design reviews, optimization of cost / performance of components and subsystems, identifying technical risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and plans
  • Ability to do prototyping of mechanical designs in-house
  • Willingness and desire to take complete ownership and responsibility for projects
  • Results orientated
  • Project management experience
  • Detailed understanding of modern mechanical and electrical engineering principles and practice
  • Must be able to creatively overcome design limitations with minimum delay and cost

Qualifications:

The candidate should have a successful track record with innovative electro-mechanical technology development.
The candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Five or more years of mechanical design experience (preferably within a product design environment)
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling and detailing required (Pro-Engineer)
  • Proficient using FEA tools for thermal analysis
    Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience creating machine, sheet-metal and assembly drawings including knowledge of industry best practices
  • Experience with FMEA and product validation
  • Experience with industrial power electronics  design and/or manufacturing practices
  • Experience with and understanding of UL and IEEE standards and/or certification
  • Experience with and understanding of electronics operation, thermal packaging, and electronic  component placement including PCBs and high power components
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, able to generate technical reports and documentation

Senior Electrical Engineer

Summary

You will be a key member of the Product Development team developing state of the art Power Conversion products for use in Alternative Energy, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage, Micro-Grid, and Backup Power applications. Tasks will include design of power conversion systems, design of electrical control circuitry, development of control algorithms and software, performing system-level analysis and design, printed circuit board design, and supporting fabrication and testing of components and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Control system and auxiliary electronics circuits design
  • Overall system architecture and schematic design
  • Printed circuit board design and design supervision
  • Simulation or analysis of electronic circuits ranging from small electronics to high-power electronics
  • Software development for microprocessor and FPGA-based control systems and PC-based graphical user interfaces
  • Electrical system test procedure development, testing, and test reporting
  • Analysis of system design reliability and design for reliability
  • Generation of electrical schematics and manufacturing-related documentation

Required

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other pertinent field.

Software Development Engineer

Summary

Princeton Power Systems has a co-op position open for a talented and highly intelligent student with strong software development interests to work directly with the Engineering Team.  You will take part in developing state of the art Power Conversion products for use in Alternative energy, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage, Micro-Grid, and Backup Power applications.  Tasks will include design, development, and testing of software targeting Microsoft Windows.  Implementation of control algorithms, Windows 7 and Windows Ce/Windows mobile based GUIs, communication implementations, troubleshooting control systems and during system-level testing, and test plan development will be among your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software PC-based graphical user interfaces and implementations of control algorithms using C#/.NET.
  • Develop methods and procedures for testing software to ensure conformance to the software engineering design and customer requirements.
  • Assist in the maintenance of existing software systems in the field.
  • Participate in the complete Software Development Lifecycle form gathering requirements to system design to software development and testing to release and maintenance.
  • Work with project and hardware engineers to define interfaces between hardware and software and specify software design.
  • Research and evaluate the fitness of future platforms, libraries and potential software implementations.

Power Electronics Design Engineer (Principal/Sr.)

Job description:  The Power-electronics Design Engineer is responsible for design of power-electronics circuits and components associated with power converters, inverters and motor drives (480V AC, 10 hp to 100 hp, and 100kW to 2 MW).  Job requires design of power converters (AC/DC, DC/AC. AC/AC) using MOSFETs, IGBTs, and thyristors; silicon and silicon carbide devise;; harmonic and EMI filters, high frequency transformers, high frequency capacitor banks, and selection of protection components.  Knowledge of closed-loop control system is a plus.  Work with cross-functional team members from product concept through production.

Job involves design and simulation of power electronics circuits using Dymola or Simplorer simulation packages.  Design experience of high-power inductors and high-frequency transformers is a plus.  Job includes conceptualizing, designing, documenting and procuring the components, and supporting manufacturing and testing.

Position requires an individual who is self-motivated, self-managed, team oriented, proactive, task oriented, and hands-on, able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements.

Electrical Engineering degree, BSEE (MSEE preferred) with 2+ years related experience required.  Desired to have experience with power converters, motor drives, VSDs, inverters, 480V AC to 15kV, kilowatt to megawatt.  Familiarity with IEEE, UL, NEMA, ANSI, CEC, MIL, and other standards and qualification testing is a plus.  Candidate should be able to handle multiple projects, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of performing and/or oversee laboratory high power testing, and comfortable in a hands-on product development environment.

Control system Engineer (Principal, Sr.)

Job description:  The Control System Engineer is responsible for design of control algorithms, remote communications, and software code applicable to power converters, inverters, and motor drive products.  Job involves simulation of power-electronics and controls systems simulation and also involves the developing controls algorithm, overall control architecture, and the development of software design documentation and code development and writing.

Position requires and individual who is self-motivated, self—managed, team-oriented, proactive, task oriented, and hands-on, able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements.

BS/MS in electrical engineering or computer science with 5+ years related experience in control system design, embedded software design/coding, or electronic component/ system modeling is required. Understanding of the fundamentals of analog electrical circuits, including the ability to derive and solve circuit differential equations is a plus.  Candidate shall also understand control theory, particularly as applied to PWM power converter control and motor control and have the ability of programming real-time digital control systems in C.

Candidate should be able to handle multiple projects, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable to perform and/or oversee laboratory high power testing in excess of 30kW and up to 300kW, and comfortable in a hands-on product development environment.
